Rose Sunday – Gaudete – The Third Sunday of Advent

In the tradition of the Advent wreath, lighting the third candle represents “joy” and is often called the “Shepherd’s Candle,” symbolizing the great joy felt by the shepherds upon hearing the news of Jesus’ birth, as they were the first to witness it; this candle is typically pink in color and is lit on the third Sunday of Advent, also known as “Gaudete Sunday” which means “Rejoice” in Latin.
