Good Friday 2025

April 18

Good Friday 2025 is a significant day in the Anglican tradition, marking the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his suffering for humanity’s sins. We observe Good Friday during Holy Week. It occurs on the Friday before Easter Sunday and is marked by solemnity and reflection.

This is an all day event beginning with Morning Prayer @ 10:00 am and ending after Tennebrae, The Service of the Shadows.

  • Morning Prayer – 10AM
  • Noon – Tres Ores; Mass of the Pre-Sanctified
  • 1PM – Stations of the Cross and Reflections
  • 2PM – Meditations on the 7 last words of Christ from the Cross
  • 7PM – Tennebrae;The Service of the Shadows

Anglican churches typically hold special services on Good Friday. These services will include reading the Passion narrative from the Gospels, which recounts the events leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion. Many congregations observe a period of silence or meditation to reflect on the gravity of the day.

The liturgy often includes the Veneration of the Cross, where parishioners can approach and show reverence for a wooden cross, symbolizing Christ’s sacrifice. The service may also feature hymns that focus on themes of suffering and redemption, as well as prayers that seek to express sorrow for sin and a desire for reconciliation.

Fasting and abstinence from meat are standard practices on Good Friday among Anglicans, reflecting a spirit of mourning. The day is not a celebration but a time for deep introspection on the meaning of Christ’s sacrifice and the hope of resurrection that follows on Easter Sunday.

Good Friday serves as a crucial moment in the liturgical calendar, reminding Anglicans of the depth of Christ’s love and the foundation of their faith through his suffering and death.
