Holy Saturday 2025 will take place this April 19th. Beginning with Morning Prayer and at 10:00 am, preparations for Easter and decorating the Church. At 7pm we celebrate the Lighting of the New Fire and the Prophecies.
Holy Saturday, in Anglican traditions, is a day that falls between Good Friday and Easter Sunday, serving as a time of reflection and anticipation. It is the day that honors the burial of Jesus Christ and the period He spent in the tomb.
On this day, many Anglican congregations observe a quiet and somber atmosphere, reflecting on the grief of Christ’s crucifixion and the silence before the Resurrection. Some churches hold the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday evening, a significant and ancient liturgical celebration. This Vigil often begins with the lighting of the Paschal candle, symbolizing the light of Christ coming into the world.
The Vigil may include readings from Scripture that recount the history of salvation leading up to the Resurrection. It’s a time for baptismal renewal, where congregants may reaffirm their baptismal vows, highlighting the themes of rebirth and renewal that are central to the Easter message.
Overall, Holy Saturday invites Anglicans to pause in contemplation and prepare their hearts for the joy of Easter Sunday, when the Resurrection of Jesus is celebrated. For some families this might mean praying together, preparing their home for guests, and dying Easter Eggs.
