Imposition of Ashes and Mass

The Imposition of Ashes, also known as Ash Wednesday, marks the beginning of Lent in the Christian liturgical calendar. During this solemn service, ashes made from the burnt palms of the previous year’s Palm Sunday are applied to the foreheads of congregants in the shape of a cross.
