Invitation to Mother’s Day Service

Greetings in Christ!

We look forward to celebrating Mother’s Day on Sunday, 05/14/2023 at 10:00 am here at St. Timothy’s ACC in Charleston, and we would like to invite you and your family to join us! We realize there is a wide range of emotions on Mother’s Day. While we do our best to be sensitive to this, we also believe it is essential that we take time to celebrate Mothers and the incredible gifts they are to families.

There’s a beautiful little story on a Godly Mother’s impact on a child and how it can carry them through times of great challenge to their faith, especially as they leave home and begin to make their way.

When Robert Ingersoll, the notorious skeptic, was in his heyday, two college students went to hear his lecture. As they walked down the street after the speech, one said to the other, “Well, I guess he knocked the props out from under Christianity, didn’t he?” The other said, “No, I don’t think he did. Ingersoll did not explain my mother’s life, and until he can explain my mother’s life, I will stand by my mother’s God.”

Dr. G. Campbell Morgan had four sons, and they were all preachers. Someone once came into the drawing room when all the family was there. They thought they would see what Howard, one of the sons, was made of, so they asked him: “Howard, who is the greatest preacher in your family?” Howard greatly admired his father, and he looked straight across at him. Then without a moment’s hesitation, he answered, “Mother.”

Whether we realize it or not, every one of us who profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is a “preacher” to a certain degree, and it is of vital importance to the next generation that our “sermons” are lived in such a way that people want to know Christ for themselves. Paul the Apostle shared a tremendous word with the people he was ministering to as he said these words in 2 Cor. 3:2; “The only letter of recommendation we need are you yourselves. Your lives are a letter written in our hearts; everyone can read it and recognize our good work among you.” People “read” our lives quite often, so let’s give them some wonderful “reading material” in the way we live and serve one another, especially Mothers who love their children and their parents!

Again, we invite you to our service on Mother’s Day as we celebrate God’s wonderful gift of Motherhood!
