Feast of Ascension, Ascension of Jesus Christ
Ascension Day is the Christian feast day that commemorates Christ’s ascension into heaven, 40 days after his resurrection. It falls on Holy Thursday, the 40th day after Easter or the 6th Thursday after Easter Sunday.
Ascension of Jesus Christ
In its widest sense the Ascension includes three moments: the final historical departure of Jesus from His disciples, the metahistorical passage and entry into heaven, and the exaltation, also metahistorical, “at the right hand of the Father.”
THE ASCENSION OF OUR LORD
The Ascension of our Lord, Jesus Christ, is a profound event in Christian theology that holds great significance. It signifies the moment when Jesus, after his Resurrection (Easter Sunday), departed from earth and ascended into heaven in the presence of his disciples. The New Testament details this pivotal event 40 days after the Resurrection. The Ascension highlights Jesus’ return to the presence of God the Father and is a cornerstone of Christian belief, symbolizing his exaltation and triumph over death. Christians commemorate the Ascension as a central aspect of Jesus Christ’s life and ministry, underscoring its importance in the narrative of salvation.
