A Service of Healing

A Service of Healing

+ In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Hear what our Lord Jesus Christ saith:
Heal the sick and say unto them, the Kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. All things whatsoever ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. Luke 10:9; Mark 11:24

Hear also what St. James saith:
Is any sick among you? Let him call for the Priests of the Church, and let them pray for him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith shall save the sick. James 5:14-15

Hear also what St Paul saith:
Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of sound mind. Romans 12:2; Timothy 1: 7

[Sit]
Psalm 23
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want; he makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies; thou anointest my head with oil, my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Gory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost,
As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalm 145 13b-22
The LORD is faithful in all his words, and gracious in all his deeds.
The LORD upholds all who are falling, and raises up all who are bowed down.
The eyes of all look to thee, and thou givest them their food in due season.
Thou openest thy hand, thou satisfiest the desire of every living thing.
The LORD is just in all his ways, and kind in all his doings.
The LORD is near to all who call upon him, to all who call upon him in truth.
He fulfils the desire of all who fear him, he also hears their cry, and saves them.
The LORD preserves all who love him; but all the wicked he will destroy.
My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD, and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever.

Gory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost,
As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Acts 3:1-16
Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at that gate of the temple which is called Beautiful to ask alms of those who entered the temple. Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked for alms. And Peter directed his gaze at him, with John, and said, “Look at us.” And he fixed his attention upon them, expecting to receive something from them. But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but I give you what I have; in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” And he took him by the right hand and raised him up; and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. And leaping up he stood and walked and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. And all the people saw him walking and praising God, and recognized him as the one who sat for alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. While he clung to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the portico called Solomon’s, astounded. And when Peter saw it he addressed the people, “Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we had made him walk? The God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified his servant Jesus, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release him. But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, and killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. And his name, by faith in his name, has made this man strong whom you see and know; and the faith which is through Jesus has given the man this perfect health in the presence of you all.

Here ends the Lesson
Thanks be to God

The Lord be with you
And with thy spirit
John 7:44-51
Jesus said; “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, `And they shall all be taught by God.’ Every one who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me. Not that any one has seen the Father except him who is from God; he has seen the Father. Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that a man may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh.”

O Lord Jesus, Lamb of God:
Have mercy upon us.
O Lord Jesus, Lamb of God:
Have mercy upon us.
O Lord Jesus, Redeemer of the world:
Grant us thy peace.

And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say;
Our Father,
who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Minister: Let us pray, dearly beloved, for our absent bretheren who desire our prayers,
Remembering especially those who are ill of body, distressed in mind, or troubled in spirit.

The Minister shall then read out the names on the Intercession List, concluding with:
And all others known to us.

Members of the congregation may now offer the names of those for whom prayers are desired out loud

Minister: Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulations, or distress, or persecution, or
famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

All: Nay, in all of these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loves us. For I am
persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other creature, Mall be able to
separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Those who wish to receive the Laying-on of Hands or Anointing may come to the Altar Rail.

LAYING-ON OF HANDS AND ANOINTING WITH OIL

Minister: O blessed Redeemer, relieve, we beseech thee, by thy indwelling power, the distress of these thy
servants; release them from sin, and drive away all pain of soul and body, that being restored to soundness of health, they may offer thee praise and thanksgiving; who lives and reigns with the
Father and the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end.
All: Amen.

At the Laying on of Hands, it is customary in some churches to Anoint with Holy Oil. Hands may be laid on those who wish to come to rail the on behalf of some absent person, but none shall be Anointed save those actually present on their own behalf The form used shall be that following:

Minister: I lay my Hand upon thee (and I Anoint thee with oil) in the Name of the + Father, and of the +
Son, and of the + Holy Ghost; beseeching the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all thy pain
and sickness of mind and body being put to flight, the blessing of health may be restored unto
thee. Amen

After all who come forward have been ministered to, the minister shall conclude with the following prayer:

The Almighty Lord, who is a most strong tower to all those who put their trust in Him, to whom all things in heaven , in earth, and under the earth, do bow and obey; be flow and evermore your defense; and make you know and feel, that there is no other name under heaven given to man, in whom, and through whom, ye may receive health and salvation, but only the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Almighty God our heavenly Father, whose compassion never faileth and whose mercies are renewed each day; we give thee most humble and hearty thanks, both for ourselves and for those for whom we pray, for relief from pain and for the succor of thy healing mercies; and we beseech thee that, daily Increasing in thy strength and rejoicing in thy goodness, both we and they may so order and govern our lives and conduct that we may ever think and do such things as shall be pleasing unto thee; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

And now brethern, let us pray for the whole state of Christ’s Church:

ALMIGHTY and everliving God, who by thy holy Apostle hast taught us to make prayers, and supplications, and to give thanks for all men; We humbly beseech thee most mercifully to accept our [alms and] oblations, and to receive these our prayers, which we offer unto thy Divine Majesty; beseeching thee to inspire continually the Universal Church with the spirit of truth, unity, and concord: And grant that all those who do confess thy holy Name may agree in the truth of thy holy Word, and live in unity and godly love.

We beseech thee also, so to direct and dispose the hearts of _________ our President, and _________ our Governor, and of all Christian Rulers, that they may truly and impartially administer justice, to the punishment of wickedness and vice, and to the maintenance of thy true religion, and virtue.

Give grace, O heavenly Father, to ___________ our Bishop, and to all Bishops and other Ministers, that they may, both by their life and doctrine, set forth thy true and lively Word, and rightly and duly administer thy holy Sacraments.

And to all thy People give thy heavenly grace; and especially to this congregation here present; that, with meek heart and due reverence, they may hear, and receive thy holy Word; truly serving thee in holiness and righteousness all the days of their life.

And we most humbly beseech thee, of thy goodness, O Lord, to comfort and succour all those who, in this transitory life, are in trouble, sorrow, need, sickness, or any other adversity. [In our Diocesan Cycle of prayer we pray for __________, and at this time we pray especially for__________ and for all those in need of our prayers who are know to us in the silence of our hearts].

And we also bless thy holy Name for all thy servants departed this life in thy faith and fear; [especially ___________] beseeching thee to grant them continual growth in thy love and service, and to give us grace so to follow their good examples, that with them we may be partakers of thy heavenly kingdom. Grant this, O Father, for Jesus Christ’s sake, our only Mediator and Advocate. Amen.

Let us humbly confess our sins unto Almighty God.

ALMIGHTY God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things, Judge of all men; We acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness, Which we, from time to time, most grievously have committed, By thought, word, and deed, Against thy Divine Majesty, Provoking most justly thy wrath and indignation against us. We do earnestly repent, And are heartily sorry for these our misdoings; The remembrance of them is grievous unto us; The burden of them is intolerable. Have mercy upon us, Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; For thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, Forgive us all that is past; And grant that we may ever hereafter Serve and please thee In newness of life, To the honour and glory of thy Name; Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

ALMIGHTY God, our heavenly Father, who of his great mercy hath promised forgiveness of sins to all those who with hearty repentance and true faith turn unto him; Have mercy upon us; pardon and deliver us from all our sins; confirm and strengthen us in all goodness; and bring us to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hear what comfortable words our Saviour Christ saith unto all who truly turn to him.
COME unto me, all ye that travail and are heavy laden, and I will refresh you.

So God loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, to the end that all that believe in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Hear also what Saint Paul saith:
This is a true saying, and worthy of all men to be received, That Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

Hear also what Saint John saith:
If any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and he is the Propitiation for our sins.

The Lord be with you.
And with thy spirit.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up unto the Lord.
Let us give thanks unto our Lord God.
It is meet and right so to do.

It is very meet, right, and our bounden duty, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto thee, O Lord, Holy Father, Almighty, Everlasting God.

THEREFORE with Angels and Archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify thy glorious Name; evermore praising thee, and saying,

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY, Lord God of hosts, Heaven and earth are full of thy glory: Glory be to thee, O Lord Most High. Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

The Prayer of Consecration or Holy Communion from the Reserve Sacrament

The Priest or Deacon then opens the tabernacle and genuflects. He removes the reserve Sacrament from the tabernacle and reverently places it on the altar. He genuflects again. He then breaks the bread saying.

The Peace of the Lord be always with you
And with thy Spirit.

The Prayer of Humble Access
WE do not presume to come to this thy Table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in thy manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under thy Table. But thou art the same Lord, whose property is always to have mercy: Grant us therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of thy dear Son Jesus Christ, and to drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his body, and our souls washed through his most precious blood, and that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen.

The Angus Dei
O Lamb of God, that takest away the sins of the world: have mercy upon us. O Lamb of God, that takest away the sins of the world: have mercy upon us. O Lamb of God, that takest away the sins of the world: grant us thy peace.

Behold the Lamb of God, Behold Him who takes away the sins of the world. Lord, I am not worthy that Thou should come under my roof, but speak the Word only, and my soul shall be healed.

THE Body of our Lord Jesus Christ, which was given for thee, preserve thy body and soul unto everlasting life. Take and eat this in remembrance that Christ died for thee, and feed on him in thy heart by faith, with thanksgiving.

THE Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, which was shed for thee, preserve thy body and soul unto everlasting life. Drink this in remembrance that Christ’s Blood was shed for thee, and be thankful.

Let us pray.

The General Thanksgiving
ALMIGHTY and everliving God, we most heartily thank thee, for that thou dost vouchsafe to feed us who have duly received these holy mysteries, with the spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of thy Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and dost assure us thereby of thy favor and goodness towards us; and that we are very members incorporate in the mystical body of thy Son, which is the blessed company of all faithful people; and are also heirs through hope of thy everlasting kingdom, by the merits of his most precious death and passion. And we humbly beseech thee, O heavenly Father, so to assist us with thy grace, that we may continue in that holy fellowship, and do all such good works as thou hast prepared for us to walk in; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with thee and the Holy Ghost, be all honor and glory, world without end. Amen.

THE Peace of God, which passeth all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord. AND THE BLESSING OF Almighty God, + the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, be amongst you, and remain with you always. Amen.

OR May the Lord + bless us and keep us. May He make His face to shine upon us and be gracious unto us. And may the Lord lift up his countenance upon us and give us peace, both now and evermore. Amen.
