Sunday of the Resurrection or Easter

INTROIT. Resurrexi (Psalm 139) I am risen and present with thee, alleluia: Thou hast laid thine hand upon me, alleluia.  Such knowledge is too wonderful and excellent for me.  Alleulia, alleluia.  Psalm. ibid. O Lord, thou hast searched me out and known me: Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising. V.  Glory be.

THE COLLECT. ALMIGHTY God, who through thine only-begotten Son Jesus Christ hast overcome death, and opened unto us the gate of everlasting life; We humbly beseech thee that, as by thy special grace preventing us thou dost put into our minds good desires, so by thy continual help we may bring the same to good effect; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost ever, one God, world without end. Amen.

FIRST LESSON:  ACTS 10:34-43  [34] And Peter opened his mouth and said: “Truly I perceive that God shows no partiality, [35] but in every nation any one who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. [36] You know the word which he sent to Israel, preaching good news of peace by Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all), [37] the word which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism which John preached: [38] how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. [39] And we are witnesses to all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; [40] but God raised him on the third day and made him manifest; [41] not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. [42] And he commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that he is the one ordained by God to be judge of the living and the dead. [43] To him all the prophets bear witness that every one who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”

PSALM 118:15-24

[15] Hark, glad songs of victory in the tents of the righteous: “The right hand of the LORD does valiantly,

[16] the right hand of the LORD is exalted, the right hand of the LORD does valiantly!”

[17] I shall not die, but I shall live, and recount the deeds of the LORD.

[18] The LORD has chastened me sorely, but he has not given me over to death.

[19] Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the LORD.

[20] This is the gate of the LORD; the righteous shall enter through it.

[21] I thank thee that thou hast answered me and hast become my salvation.

[22] The stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner.

[23] This is the LORD’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.

[24] This is the day which the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

THE EPISTLE. Colossians 3.1 BRETHREN: IF ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

GRADUAL.  Ps. 118 . This is the day which the Lord hath made: We will rejoice and be glad in it.  O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is gracious: And his mercy endureth for ever.  Alleluia, alleluia. V. (I Cor 5) Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us.

THE GOSPEL. St. John 20.1 AT that time: On the first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him. Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre. So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre. And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in. Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, and the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself. Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed. For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead. Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.

OFFERTORY. Ps. 76  The earth trembled and was still, when God arose to judgement, alleluia.
